Ok, so I just read this trait, and it looks 100% game-breaking for low levels.  900 extra gp is awesome for a low-level character, and it is easily better than any of the other traits.  My thought is that the trait should read more like:

"You get double your normal starting gold."

Thoughts?

...I have no problem with it as is. I expect heavy roleplay as to why you have such money, and your parents (parent) let you take such a large sum of money, but as long as your roleplay represents said trait, it is acceptable imo

Here is my big concern with the RP aspect:

"I had rich parents, and now they are dead.  So I get all the benefit, with no pain"  or "I have rich parents, but I don't keep in touch, and I don't care what happens."

Both of these represent ways that our group likes to RP (no entaglements).  I willing to work with this, but the exploit is pretty bad, and it's REALLY unbalanced.  Even one person takign it (as written) is rough on the capaign.  Here are some examples of why:

Warriors:  Witrh 900 gp, a warrior can afford to get a masterwork weapon (+1 AB) and heavy armor (+3 AC).  So now to balance the encounters, a monster that would hit everyone else on a 10, can hit them on a 7.

Skillz:  Imagine having a masterwork toolkit of every kind at your fingertips.  Done.  Double the circumstance bonus.

Magic:  Lolz, you don't need to rest.  You have scrolls or wands coming out of your bum!!!

Let's put this one on the block for discussion on Sunday.

I also have no problem with the trait.  Equivalent benefits, such as non-magical armor, are can be obtained from looting dead bad guys.   Note that, from our progression guidelines, people will ding level 2 after the first session.  There will not be a lot of encounters at level 1.

Being better than the other traits level 1 *only* doesn't make it over powered.  At level 2, everyone will have1000 gold anyway.  I'd rather take a trait that gives +1 to will saves, or +1 to stealth, or something that will provide meaningful marginal benefit after level 3.

To counter that, assume a fair split of the loot, some people will have 1000gp at level 2 and some will have twice that at level 2 (1000+900+starting wealth) ~ 2000gp.  I don't think there is an equivalent benefit.

WIth that gold, you can easily -BUY- an item that gives that same benefit..and maybe have gold left over.

slight counter: while I still dont have a problem with the trait, their level 2 wealth would be 1000+900. 900 is their starting wealth, not in addition to their normal starting wealth.

"Benefit: Your starting wealth increases to 900 gp."

All in all, I believe that it is a very front loaded feat, and while it is good, is extremely shortsighted. Coming from the "Power Gamer" as I have been called, it is good if you want to pub stomp early (levels 1-3) but after that is neigh useless.

My suggestion goes like this...and we can vote tomorrow :):

You get 300 extra gold to start (in addition to randomly rollwed gold), and at level 2 and 3, you can return home for 300gp each time, respectively.  If you choose to delay, you can claim the entire 600gp remaining at any time from level 3 onward.

For those not present, we spoke about this as a group on the 27th: Leave Rich Parents as is. While it provides a good bonus early, it is quite shortsighted power wise, and is balanced enough for our group to be left as is.
