Revised Paladin’s Code:

 

I am an instrument for Good and Order in the World.  My words shall be only truth.  My actions shall be valorous and noble.  I will obey the laws and commands of rightand righteous authority.  I will not harman innocent, nor allow an innocent to come to harm through inaction.  I will oppose the forces of Evil and Chaos tomy dying breath.  I will be without fearin the face of death.  I will nottolerate evil acts from those I call allies. I will follow the ethos of my god.

 

Phrase by Phrase Translation:

 

I am an instrument for Good and Order in the World.

My words shall be only truth. – I will not attempt to lie.

My actions shall be valorous and noble. – My actions will befor good and law.

I will obey the laws and commands of right and righteousauthority. – Authority has to be honorable to be obeyed.

I will not harm an innocent, nor allow an innocent to cometo harm through inaction. – I won’t hurt those who have done no wrong, nor willI stand by and let them be hurt by others.

I will oppose the forces of Evil and Chaos to my dyingbreath. – I will not serve the forces of evil and chaos. *NOTE:  This does not mean “I will fight till I die or they do.”

I will be without fear in the face of death.- I’m not goingto go looking for death, but if my death is required to fulfill my duties, so be it.

I will not tolerate evil acts from those I call allies.- I’m not going to grief the evil party members just for being evil, but I will demand that they reign in their overt evil acts.

I will follow the ethos of my god. – Last ditch catch all for religious reasons.

Please provide feedback.  I think that this code will allow for easier "not aweful stupid good" RP.

I approve. 

I agree that retreating should be allowed if fighting would be suicide.  "Oppose to my dying breath" could instead require future actions against those same evildoers...

While initially I agree, I do think this should be a code for all paladins. Each order (while all paladins are lawful good) or each god may have different ideas for their paladins. While, offhand, none of the above oaths seem to counter or go againt what I just said, some paladins may be allowed some *creative liscense* in different or slightly changed codes.


That said, the idea is that they are a lawful good champion of a god. That, in and of itself, should be remembered at all times when making a paladin.  *cough Ontrix cough*

Also, the "I will not serve the forces of evil and chaos" could be worded better imo. I like the idea of opposing them, but I understand the party conflict aspect. maybe something like "I will oppose those who seek chaos or evil, or seek to change their ways"
