roll20.net I was clued into this as the simplest online interface to facilitate tabletop gaming through the Internet. I'm currently poking around with it, and so far it seems like a surprisingly viable option. With the simple tools, we get audio/visual for all players and the DM, a map with placeables to depict combat, a die roller, and an initiative manager. All on the same screen. So far I'm impressed. It's a work in progress as the authors are working to implement more tools, including many things that their users feel are severely lacking for more complex game systems, but it also beats the hell out of the alternative online tabletop solutions by a wide margin. I'm curious to know what you all think, if it could work as a platform to run long-distance games.

I like it so far too! Makes things very easy to design, and if nothing else is a good place for me to design my campaigns

Since I've had a bit of time today, I went ahead and worked with the UI more, and it's incredibly easy. All I need to do is get some volunteers at some point to test out the video chat interface.
