The Pathfinder version of the PHB is online, and I'm curious if folks are interested in possibly switching over for the base classes.  I like a lot of their rework for the classes, including thier revamped skill system.

Here is a link to the PRD:  http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/

The major work would include needing to re-tier the PHB1 base classes, but I think that is very do-able.

Thoughts?

At an extremely quick glance on my lunch break:

Balance, Jump, Tumble have been combined - kinda ok with this
Spot, Search, Listen have been combined - kinda ok with this
Hide, Move Silently have been combined - completely ok with this

Cleric Level Progression - indifferent
Druid Level Progression - no real difference
Fighter - ehhhh its significantly better now. Not sure if i like or not
Monk Level Progression - just got better, but not by much
Ranger Level Progression - interesting, but indifferent
Rogue Level Progression - no. dont like it. makes them waaaay better. Death attack? no
Sorcerer hit die increased to d6 - not ok with this
Sorcerer Bloodlines - no. sorcerers do not need to be better. Bonus feats and bonus spells?
Wizard New Specialization - Dont like it. Dont want it.

All in all, it looks like everything is better. Some of the changes I like: some, I dont. IMO, if we adopt these changes, we can basically kiss the gestalt system goodbye, because most of the changes are going to bump the classes to a absolute minimum of T4, if not T3.

Would I be opposed to moving completely to Pathfinder: Yes. Would I be opposed to incorperating some Pathfinder ideas in our current system: No. But I am a strong component of not fixing what isnt broken. Our gestalt system fixes most of the problems with power issues, and I like the idea of combining two base classes (which is the case for T5 classes). With most of the Pathfinder reworks, I dont think we would have any PHB T5 classes anymore.

I will concur that there are things that are good and bad with the system.  I do like how they prefaced class advancement in their conversion book:

"Every character class should get something other than Saves, Skill, and AB at every level, and every character class should have a cool capstone at level 20."

I will disagree with the assessment that the gestalt tier system goes out the window.  no Tier 3-6 class will advance to T1/T2 with this mechanical change.

I also think we may be able to combine systems and allow multiple versions of the same classes to be played if folks want.

Just to follow up, here are the books for the pathfinder system (thank you wiki).  We should acquire these books, and everyone should try to get a copy of at least the core rule book.

Core Rule Book
Advanced Player's Guide
Gamemaster's Guide
Beastiary 1, 2, and 3
Ultimate Magic
Ultimate Combat
Advanced Race Guide

As a follow-up, I am fully in favor of switching over to the new system.  I am considering changing Night Below PUG to accomodate the new features.  I'm still contemplating how I want to do gestalt with this system.

I ordered the Core Rule Book and Bestiary 1 hardcover - I'll show them off when they arrive.

If I may ask, how much were they? I will probably pick up a copy myself (or check 1/2 price books).

Around $25 each at Amazon. Half price is probably better if you can get it.
