Ok folks,

I know this is short notice, but because of personal issues I won't be remaining here in Washington.  I have been working on a campaign setting, and I really don't want it to die off before it even starts because I can't be here, so it's going to be a one-off this coming weekend.  Much of the material I have been working on will not be applied, but you will still get the core themes of the setting.

The technical details:

No maximum number of players (I may ask Paladin to help co-DM if there's 6 or more players).

Starting Level: 10

Gestalt: Yes.

Allowable races: base races out of PHB1 and any subrace based upon them without a level adjustment; cannot have dragon, outsider or fae lineage

Disallowed Classes: Any Psionic-based class, and those based upon lineage of non-base races

Deities: default pantheon

Stats: 34 points

Starting gear and wealth: As per level progression rules; maximum bonus on one item may go to +5, maximum bonus on every other item purchased cannot exceed +3 or equivalent

In-House Feats: Nope.

Quick notes:  This will be an urban setting.  I highly recomment not going for classes, skills, feats, etc., invoved in wilderness survival.

The Setting:
Every year on the last day of April is the Walpurgis Night.  It is a day of celebration on the continent of Feythabolis especially where the people dance, drink, play games throughout the day, then the real fun happens at night.  Roughly half the people dress as winged demons from a brief war nearly a hundred years prior, and the other half dress as Centurions.  The dances take place around bonfires.  Demons on one side, Centurions on another.  One side dances to the drums, then the other.  Every time the demons dance, they take a piece of their costume off.  This continues until the demon costumes are completely removed, and underneath is a Centurion costume as well.  Both sides then join, and the dance continues united.

This year, the Walpurgis Night is coming, and the people are excited.  The nation of Malpais, located in eastern Feythabolis, has spared no expense this year.  It has been a good year so far, and it seems the best is yet to come.  The capital city of Detorid, located between the Twin Rivers on the shores of the Esoteria Ocean is especially lively this year.  You have come to Detorid, taking time out of your busy life for once, to enjoy the coming day in whatever way that's most interesting to you.  After all, there's more than just dancing that happens after dark.

Quick Update:

I'll be trying out a bard build. (As an alternative, in case sev wants his fochulan, I'll go with a cleric build)

Ren is going sword and board.

I can't view the line breaks on this post correctly :(  A lot of words are truncated at the right margins, so I think I'm missing some of the content.

This weekend, whenever enough people show up.

I know it's short notice, I am sorry about that.  We may end up going more than one night on this, if people are up to it.

I also had a question earlier about a particular subrace.  After looking it over, I'm going to amend my racial restriction.

I'll allow anything based off a base race from the PHB that doesn't have a level adjustment.  If it's something that would be more exotic for the setting, run it by me first.

Just bear in mind that whatever you play had to be able to travel to a primarily Human city without too much issue.  The city of Detorid is where everything takes place.  This isn't a hard rule, but if your character is intolerant of Humans, you may want to rethink playing it.

I am using a full window, at 1280x1024 resolution. The posts on this thread look like a wordpad file with text wrapping turned off.

I see things like:

Thanks, Mike, for reposting part of it.  FYI, The "edit" hyperlink is also missing from all posts in this thread.

EDIT:

Apparently my crappy work internet screwed up the web formatting. I get full functionality at home.

In after thought, keep working on your campaign while you are away, Aperion. If you do get the chance to come back, even for just a bit, I know that I am willing to continue this campaign. I really enjoyed it.

Some fun facts about cut content in the campaign those two nights:

Originally, there was to be a fourth battle, one initiated by the flying Rogue that shadowed the group.  He was going to flag down another small unit heading out to the city so they could turn around and intercept the group.

More time was going to be spent on the inside of the Keep, and I was going to have the group make a real effort in avoiding internal patrols.

The final boss guy actually had Power Word: Kill and Whirlwind Attack.  Because it was so late, I opted not to use either.

I had a Wizard unit built, but ended up not using it at all after the second fight beat the shit out of the group.

Last, there was supposed to be much more detail involved in who Daimakaicho was, and why it was going to be summoned to that city in particular.  Further, there was a lot more involved in the backstory of the people who changed history, but I cut that out for the sake of maintaining mystery.  After all, not every question need be answered on the first story night.

I have done some more on the campaign as a whole, and the last little bit of story that was there will be the lead into a longer campaign.  But I do have intentions to come back, if not to live than to visit sometime next summer (as well as for Dave and Diane's wedding in May, but that may not be the best time to run a game; we'll see!).  So we may very well set up a new chapter in this story when the time comes.

Yea man those were very much 1 a day encounters. It wasnt so much a normal encounter every time, but fighting an equally geared, probably slightly higher ecl PARTY each time. I have to admit, of all the games ive played in, it was the one that I have seen the party struggle the most in.

Good job on a good campaign :D

Thanks Sev :)

It actually wasn't too terribly hard to set up mobs that could be challenging, through I definitely needed to work on my casters.  The melee DPSers on the other hand were easy to mock up.  The big three stats, AC, AB, and damage were the most crucial to get just right, and from my perspective I hit on all of them pretty well.  Obviously there's plenty I'd change, but none of it was problematic enough for me to continue dwelling on.  The biggest challenge for me was going head-to-head against five players.  As a DM, I really feel like it's a 1v5 fight, and it's really hard to outmaneuver five people by one's self.

Anyways, I'm thinking Part 2 will be a lot more into the RP aspects with only one big fight.  I'm also debating on whether to allow everyone to use the same characters, or start with a brand new set, but there's not exactly a need for a rush job right now so this will all get considered in due time.
