I think it is OK to use these because they were published as stand-alone content, and are not unique to the Legacy of Fire published campaign setting.

Greg is trying to get History of Scars.

I am sort-of trying to get Healer's Touch.

Can you link to their PAIZO link?  I can't seem to open that link.

********************

Edit:  Found them on the SRD website.  I find the whole "1000 points of healing/damage" a little silly, and way easy to game....but meh.

For example:  Adeon and Nathan meet up every day during downtime.  Adeon inflicts damage on himself to help Nathan "practice healing".  Nathan heals him for 2d6 (call it 7 damage) 3 times using Channel.  If the rest of the party joins in....then Nathan can heal 70 points per day.  2 weeks later, he qualifies.

Also, like most things, these feats are...well...mostly bad.  Healers Touch and History of Scars are the only two feats that I even remotely liked, lol.

That said....Wheaton's LAw says don't do that, and this is all editorial about the language of the feat, not an arguement for excluding it ;-).

Last word, I'm fine with these feats.

As a follow-up, does this damage/healing start at level 1?  or can you declare at some point that "My healing starts now!"?

The Scribd link works for me in both I.E. and Firefox.  Here's an important fine print:

Because of the way you qualify for these feats, it is possible to exploit circumstances to easily meet the requirements for some of these feats. For example, you could qualify for the Gifted Mesmerist feat by casting charm person on willing party members, or have the party sorcerer knock you out every day with burning hands so you qualify for the Flame-Tested Survivor feat. This sort of exploitation goes against the intent of having these feats be the result of actual achievements, and your GM should feel free to discount these attempts when deciding whether or not you qualify for the feat.

Here are some basic principles:

1) Players have to track their progress.  So, damage and healing may starts at level 1 *and* you have to declare when it starts.  ("I would have qualified by now" isn't good enough.)

2) Progress needs to be the result of actual in-game achievements.  That's not Wheaton's Law; it's rules-as-written.  See italics.

3) Healer's Touch explicitly only works on healing spells cast on others.  Channel Energy doesn't count.  Healing spells cast on myself don't count.  Given this, it will be awhile before Nathan qualifies.

4) I paid three bucks for the PDF download from Paizo's website.  I can print out relevant pages if people like.

It's available through "Tricky Owlbear Publishing" which is not the same as Paizo, but an official-looking, nicely formated document is for sale on Paizo's website:

Is this good enough, or is it still "3rd party"?

My understanding is that it is still "3rd party." If we want to start allowing 3rd party.... we should be careful, dispite the official-looking of it. Dangerious door to open

I concur with Sev's apprehension towards allowing 3rd party.  Paizo had tried to keep a careful balance with their publishings (though they are starting to run the course that killed 3.5, i.e. lots of needless splatbooks).  Case in point, Elle already had to swap a feat due to 3rd party exclusion.

I looked at the feat a little bit more, and it's power scaling is brutal.  I could easily see this feat avialabe by level 5 or 7.  That means every healing spell gains ~3.5 points of healing per dice used.  A similar power occurs for paladins with lay on hands.....at level 20.

In the end, it may not matter, but the feat looks REALLY good.  Also, unilke Scarred to Fuck and Back feat, it rewards Nathan for following the precepts of his faith...non-violence and healing.

Most of this is random musings.  If told I had to vote to allow this feat, I'd prolly vote no (but I'm right on the line about it).

pfft needless :P

While I disagree with Paladin on the splat-books pov, I do agree (for the most part) with the idea of not allowing 3rd party material. Its hard to draw the line between "too good" and just "good", and we would have to draw the line for everything. What if someone really disagrees? Are we going to spend anywhere from a 5-30 min discussion for every thing that someone wants?

tl:dr - we cant blanket allow all 3rd party, because some is just too good. we would have to allow things on a case by case basis on a vote system. Are we willing to go to that much work?

PS: splatbooks are fun!

edit: typo's

* I agree with not allowing 3rd party.  So, yeah, if it's "3rd party" then we're not going to use it.  But I don't think we voted on this, so we should reemphasize it to the group.  We also need to define "3rd party".  See next point:

* The achievement feats were published by Paizo as part of Paizo's Legacy of Fire campaign setting.  Then those same achievement feats were excerpted by Tricky Owlbear into a stand alone document that you can download for three bucks instead of having to buy the Legacy of Fire boxed set.  Given this, are the feats "3rd party"?  If they are; fine.  But someone should tell this to Gregg, who will not read this and who is meticulously tracking progress toward History of Scars.

* For my own academic interest, I will track progress toward Healer's Touch, even if the feat gets banned.  I am curious when I would be elegible.

Ahhhhhhhh. See I thought they were released by Trickey Owlbear to start with. My bad

If they were initally released by Paizo, then they are not 3rd party, and therefore not "banned" by our rules

I think I will qualify for Healer's Touch at level 9.  I do agree that it would be overpowered at that level.  So, even if the feat is not "banned", I could simply choose not to take it.
