This is in the CRB. So now we have to figure out how to make this work with the downtime rules. I think that for the month we had off, everyone should decide how their character lived, and reduce GP by that much. We also have to track this going fwd. Here is my thought where everyone is: Adeon: Average (Owns a small house) It's important to note that party members can basically secure "cheap" items for free from their homes. I like this b/c it keeps them from having to track everything they buy, just what they want to carry. Cost of Living An adventurer's primary source of income is treasure, and his primary purchases are tools and items he needs to continue adventuring—spell components, weapons, magic items, potions, and the like. Yet what about things like food? Rent? Taxes? Bribes? Idle purchases?
You can certainly handle these minor expenditures in detail during play, but tracking every time a PC pays for a room, buys water, or pays a gate tax can swiftly become obnoxious and tiresome. If you're not really into tracking these minor costs of living, you can choose to simply ignore these small payments. A more realistic and easier-to-use method is to have PCs pay a recurring cost of living tax. At the start of every game month, a PC must pay an amount of gold equal to the lifestyle bracket he wishes to live in—if he can't afford his desired bracket, he drops down to the first one he can afford.
Destitute (0 gp/month): The PC is homeless and lives in the wilderness or on the streets. A destitute character must track every purchase, and may need to resort to Survival checks or theft to feed himself.
Poor (3 gp/month): The PC lives in common rooms of taverns, with his parents, or in some other communal situation—this is the lifestyle of most untrained laborers and commoners. He need not track purchases of meals or taxes that cost 1 sp or less.
Average (10 gp/month): The PC lives in his own apartment, small house, or similar location—this is the lifestyle of most trained or skilled experts or warriors. He can secure any nonmagical item worth 1 gp or less from his home in 1d10 minutes, and need not track purchases of common meals or taxes that cost 1 gp or less.
Wealthy (100 gp/month): The PC has a sizable home or a nice suite of rooms in a fine inn. He can secure any nonmagical item worth 5 gp or less from his belongings in his home in 1d10 minutes, and need only track purchases of meals or taxes in excess of 10 gp.
Extravagant (1,000 gp/month): The PC lives in a mansion, castle, or other extravagant home—he might even own the building in question. This is the lifestyle of most aristocrats. He can secure any nonmagical item worth 25 gp or less from his belongings in his home in 1d10 minutes. He need only track purchases of meals or taxes in excess of 100 gp.

Yep, this is all on page 405 of the CRB. Thanks for finding it. I suggest explicitly stating that if players want to stay in private rooms, while experiencing an Average or Poor standard of living, then those PCs need to pay for the rooms in addition to the cost of living expense. I think my interpretation is implied in the descriptions for Average and Poor cost of living. I also suggest that players be allowed to track every expense if they prefer brute force accounting.

I prefer brute force accounting! At the same time, I almost need to spend the money on the cost of living. It makes itself worth it in food cost alone. Common meal, twice daily, is 6sp. that works out to being 18gp a month. already, average income is more than worth it. So how about brute force accounting with cost of living? Edit: oops math fail. Meals are per day, so good meals for a month are only 9gp. Still... worth it almost on food alone. Not to mention you can get good meals since they are beneath the 1gp mark, which would be 15gp a month...

I have no issue if folks want to bruce force it. My question becomes: Can I spend the monthly gold to get the advantage of being able to take anything I want that is under the price limit?

Much like accelerated crafting, this rule seems to require a little bit of effort in order to make it work. To your example: While it was argued in farce, this could very clearly be used as a method of "breaking the system". So step 1: Don't violate wheaton's law. Proposed addition to the rule: Does that work, or do you still want to be snarky? ;-)

Depending on the level of wealth gained after this adventure, Elle may be moving up a bracket (From Average to Wealthy).
